I understand your grievances and I completely agree, however bear in mind that EVE is supposed to be played by a great number of players that might not have high hardware specs.

However if a miracle occurs, I suppose a more accurate representation of warfare is needed, speaking of which I would add at least some HINT that the shield is active on a ship and taking hits. "Nexus: The Jupiter Incident", old as it is, implemented this really well, the shield buble was flashing briefly and transparently when hit.
Also I would like to see some change in a capital ship textures according to the damage it takes and perhaps segments hit. Small fires and some cheap smoke would be great.
