Re: EverQuest 2 - Some more scattered comments
* I noticed that I CAN queue spells but there's no apparent way to see what I have queued or if there's something queued.
The queued spell/skill should have a flashing yellow border. I don't remember an option to modify that, so I'm not sure why you aren't seeing it.
* I had problems tracking the active effects on my target during combat.
The way I primarily kept track of my spells on a target is by the spells that show up in your "maintained spells" window (by default on the left side of the screen). Generally you don't cycle targets too often, so whichever mob you are targetting is the mob with the negative effects being maintained currently. The icons match the corresponding spell icon to cast it.
For me, caring about the game world, having some level of immersion is important to my enjoyment (I fall heavily into Bartle's Explorer type). I found some enjoyment in exploration (going places I wasn't supposed to be yet) of the greater world (which does get larger when you leave the city) and there were a handful of quests that stressed exploration - a few with riddles asking you to seek out minor and major landmarks, my favorite was likely the "Journey is half the fun" heritage quest which has you plotting best routes around zones to see the POIs inside of a set time. I also enjoyed quests that advanced the lore (history and trivia) of the game - these sought the balance of enduring the repetetive combat for the few pages of history about the world (primarily book quests, you can start some now by buying books at your mage tower).
(Note: I'm currently out of EQ2, not for any specific complaint I could find against the game, but only because I found I did not care about the stories anymore :(, little was keeping me in game. So now I'm 2 weeks into the novelty of WoW ;))
