Re: Casual players ...where? RUN!
Well, it's not as if Blizzard didn't get warning signs early on in the process. I remember when they introduced their ideas for raid content during closed beta and set the board on fire. To summarize (and necessarily paraphrasing from memory), it went like this:
Players: "Please, for the love of God please don't tell us that WoW's end-game content is going to be a raiding game! Why the hell wouldn't we stick with EQ if all you have is that?!"
Blizzard response: "Calm down. The raiding content is only intended for hardcore guilds like Fires of Heaven, not for the majority of players. We want to make the end-game fun for everyone, and they're part of the "everyone". Don't worry, there will also be plenty to do for the rest of you."
... or something like that. I definately remember the "intended only for the hardcore" line. It's a shame that the beta board wasn't archived someplace where we could dig up the reference.
It's embarrassing for me to admit that I believed them and was reassured by Blizzard that the end-game wasn't going to be like it turned out to be. Call me a sucker. :P
