Re: LFG systems

One of the most important features of a LFG system that is frequently overlooked is the possibility to search for groups already existing that still aren't full and could use more players.

That is my long lost battle.
I keep telling that any time I have the chance to do so, on every forum and especially on the EQ2 boards.
I can't believe mmorpg developers don't understand this simple fact.
Here's my idea, EQ2 oriented:

Group leaders can use the command /lfm (Looking for More).
Doing so your group becomes visible on the Group Boards.
What are the group boards?
Boards (!) placed in a couple (or just one, depending on how much you want to scatter population through city zones)) of known locations in your city, like the City Hall, the Docks, whatever you like.
Players looking for groups just have to go to the boards, double click it and get a list of all the group leaders that are looking for more members.

How hard would that be?

It would solve the problem of players unable to find groups.
It would solve the problem of groups unable to fill spots.
It would solve the problem of not having real meeting, socializing locations in EQ2.

You could buff up the system with some notes like the zone where the group actually is, or a very brief leader editable string of text with purpose of the groups.

Sincerely, I am no programmer, but I can't believe they work to a Guild Recruiting tool and can't come up with something so simple.

Anyway, great post.
I agree with it wholeheartedly.
Seriously, I can't believe mmorpgs are still developed without /lfm tools.

Oh, almost forgot. Planetside works perfectly too now, with a squad (group) browser, where the leader sets the accessibility and some notes. If the free slots are "open to all", a player can join him/herself without even having to contact the leader. Just click the chosen open party on the browser and hit "join". Maybe too "futuristic" for fantasy mmorpgs but definitely great for gaming purposes.
