Ha. Sir, I am in total concurrence with both your opinion and the review. I've had so many troubles with this game (and still having a few) since my first month. I've long admired Square's games, but Square-Enix seems to suck at pleasing its fans. At least the non-Japanese fans, I guess. The leveling I can deal with; the farming I can stomach somehow; yet Square's continued inability to even attempt to fix some very basic game elements (improved soloing, ease of playability, etc) makes me wonder why I bother some days.
I took advantage of Square's "Return Home to Vana'diel Campaign" to reactivate an older character and was disappointed to learn that my expansion packs could not be transfered to this different account. This after being charged 2 months fees up front. To abridge, they want me to plop down more hard earned dollars for twenty little digits. Still I keep playing.

FFXI is a game I always wanted to love but that has remained really hard to approach for me. I'm sure I'm part of a large majority in this.

Maybe you're right, I might just really want to love this game despite how many headaches it gives. Dude, you were right on the money.
