As said above, WOW does have both linked mobs and pointless fetch quests
To add to the fun, it also has mobs that 'call for help' when nearly dead, generating a large instant aggro radius. While not a bad dynamic in itself, the mobs that apply it lack any kind of cohesion..certain types of monkeys will call, others will not, ditto for humanoids, etc.. not intuitive.
I am nitpicking thought, as that is more of an annoyance then anything
In the end, while its fairly simple to grasp, I still find the aggro system used by pretty much every MMORPG, to completelydestroy's immersion. Fighting your way into a building and having guards just standing there, watching you kill there friends in plain view fiften feet away is -wrong-. I refuse to believe there is not a fairly simple way to implement a more organic system.
