I beg to differ

You know how many *true* game designers there are in the world? About three.
And even they have bad ideas.

Most "game designers" are actually 'level designers' or like hollywood producers who come up with an idea for a game, that is usually derivative, just changing some elements such as the setting, the milieu, etc. "Die Hard on a Boat" is not innovation. Nor is "Diablo in Space."

People fall in love with bad ideas. Prototyping allows you to discover that an idea is bad (and no more money or time should be wasted pursuing it).

People over-committed to bad visions (once they commit themselves) can cause a very bad ending for everyone around them. Just look at the guy who said this:

"O God! I could be bounded in a nut-shell, and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams."

It didn't end well for anyone.
