"We lack that kind of 'humus' from where the developers of tomorrow will come."

Lack of "humus" and general discontent with the current system is normally a strong motivation for forward-thinking new blood. Wishful thinking, at least. Most of these cases result in an inward focusing industry with "dissenters" tossed into cult following obscurity. I'd personally like to see a reversal of the trend, but who knows where this is going to lead?
