The WH and WH40k universes have diverged a lot in lore and story development. The only major common element is the "order" vs. "chaos" struggle, and the fact that the races are somehow similar (Elves/Eldar, Orcs/Orks, Dwarves/Squats and Empire/Space Marines+IG). I've been an avid WH/WH40k gamer for most of the last 15 years and I would enjoy to play two MMO games based on the Games Workshop franchises if both are good.
But you are correct insofar as the monthly fee and time requirement will probably limit people to only one game.
