Re: Checkmate in two
Wow, talk about a necro comment :D
Everyone once in a while I'll check out DAOC for giggles. I just did so today, 7/16/10 and at 1920 resolution the game is not playable for me. At all.
I really think the game still has potential even with its dated graphics and controls. But if I can't read the text, (at least chat text is adjustable thank goodness), and comprehend the icons on the toolbar or in the character sheet because the graphics are so tiny, I'm not going to bother.
CRT's went buh bye over 7 years ago and 20 inch lcd monitors go for under 200 dollars these days with 1920x1200 being a standard resolution. DAOC's UI seems to be geared for 800x600.
Anyhoo they lost a potential customer in the first 10 minutes of evaluation because their UI prevents them from competing. It's almost like they want people to quit in the first few minutes.
I guess the attitude is that as long as enough folks are subscribing to pay the bills they'll keep the servers up. If a few new subs come along that's fine, but they're not willing to put resources into actively growing the customer base. The thing is, IMHO, they took this attitude when the game was still popular.
