Re: Tolkien sucks and Goodkind is great!

Goodkind did borrow entire subplot structures from Jordan's novels but puts deeper political philosophy into his character's introspections. He's not as bad as R.A. Salvatore but its still quite preachy.

One interesing thing to compare between the two series is that Jordan seems to focus heavily on the subtle manipulations of matriarchical societies like the Aes Sedai. Goodkind on the other hand seems to focus a lot on brutal male dominated societies like Darken Rahl's country or the Imperial Order. Its like the series are almost the same story but they use different gender stereotypes. Goodkind's focus on beastly male behavor tends to alienate some female readers but Jordan goes in the opposite direction and can be just as offensive. Just how many times is Rand al'Thor manipulated, captured, and tortured by some queen, emperess, or Aes Sedai.?

If you want some good Fantasy with unconventional plots and without including their authors sexual deviances in the storytelling check out some of Jim Butcher's stuff. If Sci-fi is more your thing then John Scalzi or the Saga of the Seven Suns are both great.
