I don't want to spoil it for anyone else, so I'll just say that you are so right, but there is also a third image. And it explains a lot; I was suddenly able to reconcile the Logen I knew from the story, which as you say was brilliant anyway, with the Logen Ninefingers, the Named, The Bloody Nine, that we kept hearing related from legend by other characters throughout the story.
