Don't usually comment on reviews because it can look a bit compromising from your point of view and a bit desperate from mine, but I just wanted to say that I think this is an excellent review. Helps that you liked the book, of course, but quite apart from that I don't think I've ever seen more inciteful criticism of it, both strengths and weaknesses.
You got the point. Particularly the structuring around brief scenes at crucial moments, rather than the following of every part of each character's lives. This more filmic or theatrical approach was exactly what I was going for, and I'm very glad that it worked for you.
I'll be very interested to see what you make of the other books.
