Wolf, it's a fair assessment of modern U.S. "capitalism". I'd assert that such is a mutation of the core concepts of capitalism, though.
That aside, this is indeed pretty screwy. The only way that skill can be justified as a main motivator is if everyone starts on the same level ground, gear included. WoW isn't built on that premise, and trying to infuse the "skill" argument into the game design this way absolutely will not work. Not only is it silly, but it's a catch-22 situation.
Bleh.
