the point of guildwars is that it eliminates alot of the problems of MMORPG. In fact, if you had done your research, you would have known that the developers do not call it an MMORPG, but rather, a Competitive ORPG. Part of the point of the game is that it is based soley on the combat. To address your complaints about the "single path" style missions, just think for one second how a., hard and time consuming (time that could be spent improving the focus, PvP) it would be to animate and render a huge area and b., what would happen to the lack of a monthly cost if huge areas were rendered. From your article, I cannot conclude whether you like the game or not, though it would seem that you actually like it more than your facade of negativity would suggest. Take a step back from whatever prejudices that you might have picked up from playing traditional MMORPGs and look at Guild Wars for what it really is, a "Competitive ORPG."
