The speed of this coming out makes sense if you look at some of John Smedley's recent interviews. Sorry, I don't have time to post them, but if you do a google news search and look at the ones between Nov. 9 - 11, he makes the comment a couple of times that they are moving to a business model in which they are offering a free game where you don't pay for external expansions, you pay for unlocking content within the game. He says that they are trying to move on this "quickly" possibly by the end of 2006. This is probably part of that process. Also they are moving to cross-platform which explains the dumbing down. He doesn't give the name of what the title of the new game will be, but if it isn't SWG, this might be what they are using as a test.
