Hosting Vivendi's slides wasn't a goddamn crime

So Blizzard asked us to remove the slides via e-mail. As SirBruce pointed out (and I'm also starting to think that SirBruce is in the wrong field and should have become a lawyer with all that arguing and stubborness so naturally flowing) the request to remove them wasn't framed as a legal one. I wouldn't even judge it a threat.

In the meantime I found this:

3. Information presented on www.sec.gov is considered public information and may be distributed or copied.

So I decided to link directly at least the first of the slides with the Blizzard logo. Why? To mock them a lil and because it fits sooo well with the blue on black layout of this site. Pretty.

Re: Hosting Vivendi's slides wasn't a goddamn crime

Things like this happily surpise me, because I am cynical.

That their request to remove the slides wasn't framed as a legal request (I hope it was a *polite* request), And that you granted their request really without raising a fuss about it (or going back to put the slides up once you found "Information presented on www.sec.gov is considered public information and may be distributed or copied.").

I mean, this amounts to "please don't" followed by "ok, I won't". And no harm, because the stuff's all publicly accessible anyway.

Kind of a rare thing to see, especially on the internet.

Nice of them not to do the "big company threatening thing" and nice of you to grant their request.

Not pickin' on Blizzard about the cynicism - it's just I sort of expect all companies (and lots of individuals) to pop off with a threatening legal-esque bully sort of letter without even considering the possibility that they might get what they want by asking.

Anyway, this was a nice thing to read.

Low expectations leads to being easily delighted, I guess.

Re: Hosting Vivendi's slides wasn't a goddamn crime

Well, you can congratulate with Blizzard, not so much with me.

I'm pretty scared after I received a *phone call* from Vivendi when I mirrored the screenshots of the Burning Crusade before it was officially presented at BlizzCon, last year.

It's not even my purpose to post news, I usually only add my opinions. In this case I tried to dig on the news to have a better idea of what happened, and it's why I asked SirBruce to show the slides.

I read he saw the slides. After all the rumors I thought it could have been a good thing to see those slides and use them as a "proof". Pro or against it.

Re: Hosting Vivendi's slides wasn't a goddamn crime

just happened upon your blog by accident while checking out google's finance page on Vivendi.

I think Vivendi screwed up if they included proprietary slides in their SEC filing. Not so clearly, the slides do seem to be marked with some sort of proprietary mumbo jumbo, but I would say the SEC privacy rules would trump Vivendi's claim.

At least Vivendi didn't threaten legal action. It would have become interesting to see if the SEC would have considered that a violation! But since they were fairly nice about it, I think you made the right choice. But I would consider you were doing them a favor, that you were a nice guy, covering up for their screwup.
