These screenshots are worth a *ban*!

Here's a "visual" reportage of the protest that took place about two hours ago on the Argent Dawn server of World of Warcraft. The subject of this protest was the problems of the warrior class, the purpose of the protest was to draw the attention over those issues and 'to awaken' both the playerbase and Blizzard.

In general I do not care about classes discussions, in fact I rarely rant about nerfs or direct unbalances of the classes. But I was there, of course. These type of "happenings" are way too fun and interesting from an "observer" point of view. They are something unique that has its roots directly in the very potential of the genre.

You can read in detail about what happened and find more proper and informative links here.

Instead if you follow the "read more" link on the right of this article you'll see my visual reportage. From the beginning to its pitiful end ;p
(about 16 images and 4.8Mb in total)

My conclusions are unrelated: the client of the game is amazing. Everything remained perfectly smooth with no hiccups or freezes even when someone started spamming AOE spells. I could consider this as a preemptive test for the upcoming battlegrounds.

UPDATE: Pasted at the bottom the letter I received from Blizzard about the account suspension.

P.S.
My mailbox is still waiting an answer. So I don't know if the account got suspended for a day, a week, a month or just forever. Voices say it's three days.

I shouldn't play around happily when my account isn't even completely 'legal' considering I play from the Europe.

UPDATE:
This is the letter I received a minute ago about the account suspension:

Offense: Harassment - Zone Disruption

Details: Zone disruption for Ironforge during warrior protest, player would not disperse after many warnings

The actions detailed above have been deemed inappropriate for World of Warcraft by the In-Game Support staff of Blizzard Entertainment. As a result, this account has received a warning and a 3 hour account suspension. Until the suspension has been lifted, the account will not be accessible. Please note that Blizzard Entertainment will be unable to provide further information regarding the specific time an account will be accessible again.

Be aware that additional inappropriate actions may result in further disciplinary action, including account closure. We thank you in advance for respecting our position and hope that you will continue to enjoy your gaming experience in World of Warcraft.

EDIT: Comments disabled for awhile.

WTF do you think of when you

WTF do you think of when you say "2nd class citizen"? This isn't Plato's Republic, to actually divide citizens into 3 parts - the philosopher rulers (the bushies), the guardians (the military men), and the peasants (the rest of the people). Besides, indeed, you are killing the spirit on which America was founded! Take a look at the Federalist Papers, check the principles stated there out, and understand what this country is (was, unfortunately) all about! Oh, and BTW - nobody is acussing the soldiers in Iraq of what is going on there, it's not their fault - it's that philosopher king's fault, 'cause he oredered'em to go there.
One more thing - the American army has always served America's people, it has always obeyed the people because the people are supporting it. The ones who have the right to comment upon what the army is doing are the people!! And the fact that shrub dressed up in a military uniform was a great mistake - no other president has done that, exactly because they all wanted to show, symbolically, that the army obeyes the civilians, and not otherwise. It is not the army who is always right, no sir! You, as a civilian, are right!

Oh, another BTW: you should give more than two shits on what other people think of the shrub administration; if you only listened to them and tried to comprehend their arguments, maybe then you could come up with a reasonable criticism against their arguments, and not with a pittyfull excuse of an emotional reaction.

To me, you're an uninformed citizen, susceptible to manipulation.

"And it worked! Saddam didn't

"And it worked! Saddam didn't do what George wanted. Saddam's kids are in dead, Saddam is in jail and they are killing the people in the country as we speak."

Not defending GW or anything, but the last time I checked, the peoples of Iraq just had their first free elections, ever. I also seem to remember REAL terrorists sending mortars into the neighborhoods of innocent people who were exorcising their new-found rights to vote. Don’t trash the soldiers who are dieing to give those people this freedom.

...He wasn't trashing the soldiers

"Don’t trash the soldiers who are dieing to give those people this freedom."

...He wasn't trashing the soldiers, he was trashing the government that sent them there.

In my opinion this war was pointless, iraq looked a lot better before we started this. We haven't found a single "weapon of mass destruction." When we found no al-queda or weapons, our mission changed from finding terrorists, to heroicly liberating Iraq. Maybe it's something else that drives bush to go to war with iraq..... I'll give you a clue.... this may be shocking to some people, but bush's family is in the oil industry, and what do you know... IRAQ has oil...

But as soon as i post something like this I'm considered an unpatriotic liberal....

also you know what else bush has done?
he's turned liberal into some sort of dirty word... I've been called liberal because the "accuser" thought it would insult me.... he was pretty surprised when i told him "thanks for the compliment"

Oh, don't get me wrong... i support our troops and wish them luck... i just don't support the war...

Careful, your youth is showin

Careful, your youth is showing...

#1) "Liberal" has been a "dirty" word and Republican war cry going back to the Regan years. The current Bush hardly invented this "insult."

#2) Bush has little to do with the perpetuation of the word as a pejorative. You want to point fingers, blame Karl Rove who crafts the uniform message for the Republican party.

#3) To accuse one party of being wrong for imputing properties onto a single word or phrase simply ignores the fact that every party in power (and many parties trying to obtain power) engage in this. See Herman and Chompsky's "Manufacturing Consent."

While I have picked my side in politics, I often wish both sides would show some F'ing restraint when discussing the politics of the other side. Neither side can claim moral high ground any more if you ask me.

Nice Screenshots

I like the screenshots. I believe Blizzard had a right to suspend these accounts if they were affecting the playability of the game. If you think about it, would you like to piss off 100 people or 1000? Yes, there are other, more desirable, methods of solving the problem. However, they probably don't have anything in place for these to be options (suspending specific characters rather than accounts, banishing specific characters to their home points, etc).

Servers problems

Yes, the problem is technical though. Protests aren't aimed to crash a server, in fact I had a lot of fun hanging around and participating. Foton directly said this.

It's actually sad that these "happenings" cannot be supported by the game.

People are aware that these

People are aware that these protests crash the server. They have throughout the history of MMORPG's. It's all a veil. These things have theie coercive intent, as well as their social intent. The nature of the coercive intent, however, is somewhat malicious. Suspend them, but don't ban them.

Level 2

I can't seem to get past bowser, I always end up at the wrong castle. Where the hell is the princess at?

Level 2

I know what you mean.

So would they have preferred

So would they have preferred all these players post complaint threads on the forums instead? I'm glad I don't visit them.

All right!! It's about time s

All right!! It's about time some people got together and united even if they were gnomes, who cares what it was about it just goes to show unity and friendship in the alliance. A suspension is the price you gotta pay to make a stand for your beliefs.

Yeah, They should...

Doing an event like this "in-game" really doesnt draw the attention that a well formed thread does. What it looks like is that a lot of people are unhappy. They dont want to take the time to think about how to fix this issue, they just wanna demostrate in game that they are unhappy. Although many players might not pay attention to the forums, I guarantee you the community relations team and the designers read suggestions. The people you need to get through to are not going to "crack" because 50-100 asshats sit on a bridge dancing. Besides who would take a mostly gnome protest seriously....

I've never used this WOW

I've never used this WOW thing. But this protest has gotten even my attention. Mainly because its funny as all get out. Even my wife is getting a kick out of it. I'm sure that everyone at Blizzard and the like will be chatting about this at their water coolers. True, it may not get anything done, but at least you can be assured that they are truly aware of the problem.

I'm all for gatherings like

I'm all for gatherings like this when the people accept the pre-warned punishments. BUT, when idiots on the WoW forums compare such trivial and hobbyist so called "protests" to such things as Tianemen Square and the like or comparing this "attempted political protest" as terrorism, it makes me wonder how most of these people can get through life without drinking Anti-freeze. Cut the freaking drama. It was an excuse to get attention and get together and pin a "cause" to it. Nothing more, nothing less. If you think Bin Laden is behind it or these participants deserve Nobel's for it, jump off a bridge with a cement block tied to you and do our future generations a favor.

go you!

You had every right to protest--too bad the servers can't handle it. :/

Good for Blizzard

You showed up, you got noticed, you made your point. They asked you to leave, you didn't, you got suspended. Good for Blizzard. If you aren't going to listen to the referee then get the hell off the field. If you make the referee throw you off, you shouldn't even be allowed to come back. That just tells me you're an ass and shouldn't be playing games online. Learn to have a little respect for other people before coming back into a multiplayer environment.

Suspened? o_0

Oké, everyone is saying here that accounts where suspened because the people who got together to prostest against the nurfe of the Warrior because it would hinder the gameplay of others. WHY? Sorry, I'm European so I haven't played in retail (have been in beta though), but howcome some players can screw everyone else's game? I really don't get it. Was the meeting of 50 (100 maybe, I only saw the screens) causes the servers to shutdown, or to drop frames to 0.0001 ps or something?

As for the action; good! I'm not a Warrior (Warlock/Druid instead), but when a class get's nurfed like that it is up to the developer to do something about it. And when they earn some milions about it (don't forget everyone is paying 10+ dollars/euro's to blizzard montly) they should do it fast!

(my appologies for the bad spelling, my Dutch is beter though ^^)

I stumbled onto this thread

I stumbled onto this thread by complete accident. But after reading the entire thing, including the lame crap about terrorism, I too have a few things to say. This protest was justified, the player PAYS Blizzard for a service. This service was sub-standard in thier eyes so they complained. Unfortunately this player complained in completely the wrong fashion. There are a few things that could have been done differently. Obviously the player should have left when asked too, they got thier point across when Blizzard staff showed up. The player could have also send emails/posted to the media voicing thier concerns, one of the better places to start for this would be www.g4techtv.com. No I am not an employee of G4 just a fan.

In short I commend this player for standing up to Blizzard, although I do not condone the actions.

Daonus Redscourge
Warrior of the 62nd Season
Tarew Marr Server
Everquest

Rock on! maybe more of these

Rock on! maybe more of these protests and theyll do something about the warriors and maybe they might even nerf the paladins some...

Also, you guys see the blizz post about the warriors? they said the decreased hit chance is to balance the "high" dps of the warrior...how exactly does a warrior even have dps if they cant hit anything that moves?

The groups of players have be

The groups of players have been complaining in both well formed and not so well formed on the blizzard website since beta this isnt something that just happened this class has been broke for a very very long time. This to the warriors was a last resort.

I like when people are trying

I like when people are trying to do something for the good of the many it is being viewed as a bad thing.

Real "Cyber-Terrorists" wouldn't have protested in this way they would have hacked into the servers and brought it down. This was a civil protest. If all that Blizzard wants to do is ban people from speaking their mind they should just get out of the game industry.

So, the assclowns at Blizzard

So, the assclowns at Blizzard, instead of fixing their goddamned awful, laggy servers to STILL BE PLAYABLE if/when every player on the server congregates in a single area (think: Blizzard's long-term goals of having entire faction vs. faction raids) instead choose to ban accounts. Wake the fuck up, Blizz, and fix your lame, broken-down, ghetto servers to be able to handle the load! If they can't handle the influx of hundreds of players from other servers creating lvl 1 accts. and logging into the server, re-instate the queues and server caps, and buy better hardware to accomodate the load. Enable migration of chars across servers to allow players to play with their chars on other servers if one comes under attack. But, for the love of God, accept responsibility here; if this simple an "attack" could DoS and crash an entire game server, then someone in the hardware design/architecture team deserves a good caning.

/not a warrior, wasn't on the server, but still adamantly anti-Blizz

I was accually thinking about

I was accually thinking about getting WoW but after all this and other stories I've seen on bad updating, server lag, and general incoponace by Blizzard with their programing. I have decided to spend my money elsewhere. I commend everyone that was there and say do again and again and again. F*ck'em! You're a paying customer and you're not getting the sevice you payed for. But the best thing you could probably do is just cancel your account and let them go belly up. Maybe one of these coorperations, that tell us what to do and when to do it, will finally listen to us instead of their shareholders.

Anarchy in WoW!

Maybe next time they will all sing Anarchy in the WoW and run around with flaming buttocks.
This message brought to you by a stupid, gay terrorist bent on covering Bushie's bottom with santorum. You may now go back to your panic about a sucky game by a capitalist company.

This is getting ridiculous, I

This is getting ridiculous, I'm going back to City of Heroes.

eh commie?

"You may now go back to your panic about a sucky game by a capitalist company."

I guess you prefer games made by a Socialist company, eh commie?

Come on people its still a new game

Come on people its still a new game. The kinks need to be wrinkled out and I think Blizzard is trying hard to do so. Yes, sometimes I get upset. But, lagging down a server is not the answer. Blizzard has kept us in the loop by telling us they have problems (Did SOE ever do that with EQ...I think NoT !)

Give them a chance, im sure that in the end you will be happy with the results....remember we are talking about this, because we love this game and care about it. Im sure that if a loved one had trouble walking...you wouldnt put them on a treadmill if they had to go to the bathroom !

Bottom Line......Have Some Patience !

Thoughts

I think that both the idea of the protest and Blizzards reaction were appropriate. I mean come on guys you were suspended for a piddly 3 hours. Get real, thats not skin off your back, and you can use the rest bonus. If this were a real protest or sit in, and the city, state, government said... OK you have made your point go home now, you too would have been arrested if you didn't leave. In the 60's College students were suspended from classes, lost scholorships, people were tear gassed, arrested. Sure they were back on the streets the next day, AND the administration heard what they had to say load and clear. Don't assume Blizzard didn't hear you becasue you were banned for three hours. Besides, for all you know they reacted this way, becasue perhaps they were reseaving 100's of complains about slow servers or lag time. Maybe us whimpy hunter's or mages didn;t even know about your protest, and was like.. WTF why is the AH lagging.. You voice was heard, and there reaction was appropriate, now lets see if they fix your class.

Comments like this won't fix things...

I understand many people have an opinion and are loooking for change within the gameplay, but why in the hell would people spam message boards with idiotic chatter about terrorism. This kinda talk has nothing to do with the reason why the protest took place or oppinions on the suspension of accounts. This kind of talk will get no results and make people overlook your comments. Saddam, 911, what the hell.. Get a life.. Grow up..

As for the protest, I think they wanted to make thier voice heard... and I guess they did. Blizzard had the right to suspend accounts because they were observed and noted and continued to disrupt gameplay for other accounts. If they whine about the suspension, all I have to say is, you didn't have to participate in the protest and you were given fair warning. Your voice was heard, the suspension you got was only temporary.

Why not just...

Why didn't Blizzard just release a giant deamon or a bunch of NPC guards on the crowd? It would have been much funnier than just suspending accounts. They wouldnt have come off so High and Mighty.

To all:

To all:

STFU

I love how people ( especiall

I love how people ( especially Americans ) like to force there laws and ideals on other countries and societies. How does the American constitution affect someone living in France or the French law in Yugoslavia. I would hate to live in America they have the largest rate of murders of any of the so called Civilized countries and even rivals some of the countries that are as poor as dirt and have constant Civil wars. WTF is with you people. First off you have a bunch of cry babies losers who should re roll there characters and play Paladins or Rouges or which ever class they see as better than there own. Give me a break FFS so what if your class needs a little bit of work so do a lot of other classes. The game is not that old class balance is still settling in if u don't like it Fuck off and go back to EQ, EQ2, SWG, DAoC, CoH, Uo, or the hundred other on line games. It was selfish of these losers to go to a place they new was always laggy as hell with a lot of people in the area and protest. There was no reason to be there we all pay money to play this game and to take that service off of other people is stealing. So fuck all warriors and sheep that participated in this protest.

Pffft..

To all: Get a life...

ALL WITH YOU ZWEEPER

people this is supposed to be a game related article and discission

I think this is absolutely HI

I think this is absolutely HILARIOUS and I think the fact that Blizzard suspended you is crap. I was thinking about getting the game, but frankly, if Blizzard is a bunch of Nazi's who can't take a joke (and I think this is a great one), then F them.

GRIEFERS now terrorists?

just read the e-mail damnit, its not terrorism, its griefing, GRIEFING!!!! they already have a name for it, GRIEFING!! no need to start yapping about terrorism, its GRIEFING!!!! and yes, griefing isnt allowed by the EULA (which is a worthless piece of crap where you have to click a box, that's all i know about it anyway) and you'll get kicked for it, and you did.

besides that, if the game is out for two months and you're already spending your day sitting on a bridge, i'd say im just gonna play Baldur's Gate again instead of buying this...

Good for blizzard suspending

Good for blizzard suspending the players -- although if I was them, I would have just took the server offline for a few days, saying the warriors had crashed it and blaming it on them. Then the hate mail to the warriors comes flooding in !! :D :D :D :D :D

This has strengthen my opinio

This has strengthen my opinion... All gnomes must die... For the horde!!!

Gathering ALOT of naked gnomes is NOT trerrorism... its just perfect for a Rain of fire...
Mua ha ha ha ha

Terrism

I'ts actually Terrism not "Terrorism", don't you listen to the US Executive Branch. =P

Excuse me?

I popped into this tread by accident and I find it completly dumb that immediatly the terms "terrorism" and the such installed themselves inside. However, I'm not here to talk about that. I believe the gnome warrior rassembly was a nice idea, never tried before, and let's face it, I bet Blizzard noticed it more than a puny thread amongst all the others inside their forums.

In my point of view, the punishment for causing disturbances in the servers was fair. They were suspended for 3 lousy hours.

"but frankly, if Blizzard is a bunch of Nazi's who can't take a joke (and I think this is a great one), then F them." Excuse me, but I doubt you really know the meaning of "nazi" given the context in which you used it "random dude". Do you people evenr read the terms of use when signing up for wow? And as a last point, not getting a (imo great) game because the company banned some people for 3 hours is lame, the game is relatively new and pretty safe server wise given it's age, even if a server has trouble with a reunion such as this one. The customer is not always right.

Naked Gnomes burn my eyes like sulfuric acid.

Yes, the goggles do nothing. Also, one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. Nobody should be complaining about being suspended. If you plan to protest, also be aware about the consequences one would receive. If you can't take the flying shit, stop blowing it out of your ass. Also that long .txt file that nobody reads called an EULA? Yeah, it proves that bitching won't work, playing WoW is a privilege, not a right and they can summon many expensive lawyers and automatically get a natural 20 for their saving throw. Be nice and you won't get the ban stick or at the worst circumstances, soap on a rope.

You should all be arrested and tortured!

In the good old days when the gestapo and the KGB had the power, none of this was happening,...

So, next march, Vote Communism!
